The Story

Pastor Phil & Christine Pringle arrived in Sydney with their family from New Zealand in 1980.  They had a vision to birth a church.  Christian Centre Northside, as it was then known, began in Easter 1980 with twelve people on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.  This church experienced rapid growth in the early 1980’s, and quickly outgrew the place it was meeting.  In 1984 the church purchased a building in Thew Parade, Dee Why.  Not long after settling into this building, the church grew to over 500 people.

During the early 80’s, this church also began to plant other churches and some independent churches, who found a kindred spirit and similarities of church philosophy, joined in with Christian Centre, Northside.

Phil Pringle did not originally start out with a vision to birth a movement, however due to the development of his apostolic gifting and leadership, a movement began to develop.  The government of New South Wales required that the group of churches be registered as a denomination, due to the fact that the ministers of the various churches were applying for marriage licences.  Hence, the movement of Christian City Church was recognised by the Australian government as a denomination.  This name change came in approximately 1985/86 to express our vision for cities and church planting.
